There is a huge difference between taking an image and coping it/tracing it and using it as reference.

References are usually a helpful way for you to get an understand of how a certain thing looks. If you take a image and do studies of the basic movements of shapes and forms, then you are using a reference correctly.

If you are taking an image and trying to duplicate it exactly, you are not using a reference properly.

I wish people would realize this before putting down people who use references and saying “Oh. I thought your art was really good, but then I heard you used references.”

People who usually claim references are the ones who trace and copy, so refrence using has become a tabu when it really isn’t. It’s just most people who use references are doing it wrong.

In light of recent things, I feel really under appreciated at times. I wonder if people know how much I do for them despite all the burdens I already carry. I do stuff like drive people around, care for their children, hook them up with connections, lend them money, the list goes on. These things I don’t normally mind. But despite all I do for others, according to my parents I’m selfish for wanting my 21st birthday celebration to be all about me. I’m selfish and I’m childish for even telling my parents that I was the slightest bit disappointed about the lack of enthusiasm for my birthday, even though I’ve expected this seeing how we haven’t really celebrated my birthday in the past 7 years. I’ve never felt more horrible about myself until now.

I’ve been really sad and depressed lately and it’s killing me inside. Today I just let it all out and cried for a while, and though it relieved some of the pressure inside, it still hurts. I honestly don’t know what to do and it’s eating away at me. I feel completely isolated and alone.
